Woodall Country House and Spa

The smell of citrus heralds your arrival in the Sunday’s River Valley, where Woodall Country House and Spa is found on its own citrus farm just outside of Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape.

Woodall suite exterior

Popular as a boutique spa and luxury hotel destination in its own right, Woodall Country Spa is where most high-end travellers come to stay before taking a trip to the world-famous (malaria-free) elephant sanctuary.

A short 45 minute drive from Port Elizabeth, Woodall was developed from an original farmhouse built in the early 1900s - and the lodge retains its old-world charm, combined with contemporary African luxury.

With a choice of six luxury rooms and five private ultra-luxury suites opening onto rose and indigenous gardens, Woodall Country Lodge and Spa offers private, spacious, 5* accommodation with every convenience from climate control to free wifi.

Woodall Spa bathrooms

Each room has all the comforts one would expect from a 5-star hotel, with en-suite bathrooms, plush beds (twin or King) dressed in crisp percale linen, mini-bars, espresso machines, and even private verandas and outdoor showers. Every room is individually designed, featuring natural materials, raw silks and unique decor collected by the South African owners on their world travels.

The ultra-luxurious suites have a separate lounge, dressing room and bathroom equipped with a deep claw-foot bathtub, private double outdoor shower and pool and extra-length King-size beds fit for royalty.

The sumptuous food is sourced fresh from their organic garden and paired with South African wines personally selected by James Miller (the owner).

The Woodall spa, fringed with palms and featuring bubbling water fountains, is a haven of relaxation and indulgence - with world-class therapists and health and beauty treatments. There’s even a spacious gym with the latest equipment for guest use.

But what makes Woodall special is greater than all the mod-cons. It’s the personalised care and attention to detail that sets it apart. At Woodall you are greeted by your name and handed a refreshing welcome drink. Your dinner menu will be set according to your dietary requirements - which all staff have been versed in (and actually remember).

You’ll find a chocolate and a hand-written, personalised note from the owners on your bed before turning down at night. An email in your inbox welcoming you home. It is small touches like these that make the difference. This same care also extends to the community and surrounding environment - and that’s why Woodall is one of a kind.

Why is it eco?

Woodall Nursery

  • Woodall sources their employees locally and grows much of their own food with a sprawling organic vegetable garden (fertilised with worm compost).
  • Products are biodegradable and earth-friendly.
  • Energy-saving measures are employed including thermal insulation and an eco-friendly heat pump.
  • Local and recycled materials were used in construction.
  • Community initiatives include the Thembulethu Trust Church Feeding Scheme, providing creches in local communities with basic foodstuffs, clothing and other essential items.
